Gram Stain: Sexy!

As my first post I wanted to share with you my favorite stain, the Gram stain. Used to identify Gram positive and Gram negative bacteria in tissue. A crystal violet-iodine complex is used to identify the Gram positive bacteria and a red counterstain of your choice is used to identify the Gram negative bacteria. The key to a good Gram is to rapidly dehydrate. Treating with alcohol removes the counterstain. A good Gram clearly identifies both positive and negative bacteria.
A well performed Gram is down right sexy!
